Kenya is one of the world's largest producers of black tea. Tea is grown at high altitude astride the equator in the rich highlands of Kenya. The company, through Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), is largely owned by over 650,000tea farmers who derive their livelihoods from tea growing in Kenya. 25% of the remaining farmers belong to farmers who form the Kenya Tea Growers Association (KTGA).
